Minter v Kingston Upon Hull City Council - equal pay lump sum settlement relevant to social security benefits means-testing

A lump-sum payment to settle equal pay litigation is intended to cover "lost" wages that should - and would - have been paid had discrimination not been practised. Accordingly, it has the characteristic of "income" in the hands of its recipient, and can be properly taken into account when being means-tested for certain social security benefits.
