New Testament Church v Stewart - Minister of New Testament Church is employee - Court of Appeal on 19.10.07

The EAT ruled in October 2006 that Sylvester Stewart, a former taxi driver who had for some years been a minister of the New Testament Church of God, was an "employee" of that church within the meaning of Employment Rights Act 1996 s.230. He could thus claim unfair dismissal. The Church appealed to the Court of Appeal. The Church has lost the appeal - on 19th October 2007 the CA unanimously upheld the ruling of the EAT.
