X v (1) Mid Sussex CAB (2) Challis - volunteer was excluded from protection against disability discrimination
Non-remunerated work does not fall within the definition of "work" or "occupation" in the Equal Treatment Framework Directive. Accordingly a volunteer (unless they have a contract to work personally for those to whom they provide their services) does not fall within the wide definition of "employment" in the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, and cannot bring a discrimination claim.
