R (on appl'on of Khan) v Chief Constable of Lancashire [2009] EWHC 472 (Admin) - power to dismiss probationer constable

Mr Khan was a probationary constable with Lancashire Police. Following a sex-related incident involving him, another man and a woman, the Chief Constable "dispensed with his services" on the grounds that he had "shown a lack of judgment and had been involved in the abuse of a vulnerable young woman for personal gratification". The Chief Constable took the view that Mr Khan had demonstrated that he was not fitted mentally to perform the duties of his office and was not likely to become a well conducted constable.
