Ian Gray, a fire alarm installation engineer employed by Fire Alarm Fabrication Services Ltd (FAFS), died after falling through a skylight at the Grosvenor Hotal at Victoria Station, London. His widow brought claims which were settled by an admission of liability by FAFS and a consent judgment against it for £400,000 plus costs. However FAFS was a sub-contractor: the judge assessed its responsibility as 50%, that of the main contractor (Humphries ) as 30% and that of the hotel owners (Thistle) 20%.
