Chief Constable of Norfolk v Coffey [2019] EWCA Civ 1061

Disability definition extends to someone with progressive condition

Ms Coffey, a police officer, suffers from a degree of hearing loss, which never caused her problems with her job and did not constitute a disability within the meaning of the Equality Act 2010 [1]. In 2013 she applied for a transfer to Norfolk Constabulary but was refused because on a medical test her hearing fell ‘just outside the standards for recruitment strictly speaking’.
