Mrs Cooper claimed sex discrimination after the Council withdrew funding for the post in which she was employed whilst on secondment from the Police Force. She claimed that the withdrawal of funding occurred as a result of the Council discovering she was pregnant. She later tried to amend her claim to plead not that the Police Force had done anything discriminatory itself but that it was vicariously liable for the acts of the Council - but the tribunal refused this amendment and awarded the police costs against Mrs Cooper.
