Mrs Jones and Mrs Shingler were both nurses at Loppington House, a home for adults with severe learning difficulties. In 2004 agency nurses working alongside them alleged that they had been been guilty of aggressive and abusive behaviour towards a patient. The outcome was that Mrs Jones and Mrs Shingler were both dismissed on the grounds of gross misconduct. As a result they lost the POVA certification required under Care Standards Act 2000 Part VII [1] to work with vulnerable adults.
