An employment tribunal is entitled, as part of its extensive case management powers, to sit as a two-man panel if one if its members is unavailable, and to take witness statements as read rather than allowing them to be read aloud at the hearing.
Mrs Purohit claimed that she suffered sex discrimination at work: she alleged some 12 incidents/comments. An Employment Tribunal found against her on all 12 - it concluded on the evidence either that comments made were innocent or else, in some instances, that the alleged incidents never occurred at all.
